Last month saw the launch of the newly renovated Sofitel Villa Borghese. It was my first time in Rome and it totally lived up to any expectation I’d had in my mind, and beyond! Being that we were only in the city for two nights, we were lucky that Sofitel arranged a tour of the city in a vintage Fiat 500. We got to see all the major landmarks in a day with a picnic overlooking the city at the end. An incredible experience whizzing round the city in what feels like the tiniest car to ever have existed. The only rule to Italian driving is that there are no rules, and we certainly felt that weaving in and out on roundabouts and boulevards. It was awe inspiring to witness first hand not only the colosseum but the Chariot racing course just beside it. I could almost see the races taking place in front of me in a stadium that used to hold 10,000 people.
After we had our scenic picnic lunch we headed back to Sofitel to unwind before the launch party. We walked around the Villa Borghese as the sun set and felt like we’d never seen anywhere so beautiful in our lives. The giant cyprus trees totally bewitched us and I felt like my camera roll quickly filled up with the surrounding landscape.
We headed back and got dressed for the Sofitel party; La Nuit. The entire top floor of the hotel was transformed into bar and dance floor alike. With the presidential suite open we could wander from either side whilst snacking on delicious mini bowls of fresh pasta and Prosecco. Fiona Zanetti played a great set and we danced into the early morning. Such a fabulous way to see the newly renovated Sofitel Villa Borghese to open!
