This was the view we woke up to from our crate hotel in Antwerp on Thursday. It was crazy surreal as there was a horse show going on just next door; there we were looking equally out of place, stood harbour side in towel robes and slippers, whilst the horses stretched their legs and the jockeys pretended not to see us. Quite the experience, which I’ll go into more detail later.
For now I wanted to show off purchase numero uno from the Ann Demeulemeester stock sale. This white shirt from the super tassle collection of Spring/Summer 12. Most of the pieces were a bit OTT for me, so I settled for this beautiful crisp white shirt with one single white tassle hanging from the centre back. The beautiful little box clutch was pinched from Michael (still with tags on!), I’ll be ordering this little guy ASAP I think.

Just finished uploading the hundreds of photos from Antwerp over the last few days. I got back late last night and thought I would share with you a snippet whilst I’m getting some rest!
Off to meet Michael at Bistrotheque for lunch, hope you all are having a great weekend!
At this point I’m almost certain that I have one of those sunshine disorders, as I am just ridiculously happy when it’s hot and the sun it out, like today! Maybe it’s just everyone in the UK that has this but it’s reaching about 20 degrees here in London; which is nothing to scoff at considering that I practically have webbed feet from all the cold, wet weather we’ve been having.
I’m now back in London for a measly 24 hours before heading off to the Antwerp stock sales tomorrow with Michael, Louisa and Lexxi. Also excited to be meeting up with Ivania too in the city. We’re staying tomorrow night in this pop up hotel Sleeping Around, luxury bedrooms in traveling crates along the harbour(!). You can follow me on twitter and instagram where I’ll be updating regularly throughout the trip as I doubt I’ll have too much time for blogging. See you laterrr and enjoy the sunshine!
Where would we be without all our accessories? I actually managed to pack light for once realising that just because my suitcase is large-ish doesn’t mean I have to fill it to bursting, especially when I always leave Devon with an assortment of delicious homemade jams and chutneys (super mum alert!).
So here are the accessories I can’t quite live without at the moment. The perfect assortment of shoe types and various coloured metals, meaning I only needed to bring a tshirt and trousers. WIN! Have a good weekend and if you want to see more from my Devon roaming, you can find me on instagram under girlalamode.
So you may have noticed my hair’s a little shorter, I’m gradually working my way up to Daria Werbowy crop for the summer, although I’m quite liking this awkward length too. I wanna be all hanging out by the pool in my furry Céline-stocks, constantly in a flash of Juergen Teller light.
I’m down in Devon for a few days appreciating the sun in the countryside, heading to beach over the weekend and generally saving those pennies until Antwerp next week! So happy Spring is finally here and legs can be out etc. Now all I need is a tan plz!
One of my all time favourite images of my girl Sandra, wearing the Charlie May AW12 biker jacket and shirt dress outside the Topshop Unique show at LFW. Definitely the most exciting thing about being a designer is seeing real girls wearing your designs, looking so amazing and obviously feeling goood; so I’ve creating some new boards and albums (via Pinterest and Facebook) dedicated to Charlie May street style. I hope you’ll follow them and be as excited as me! I’ll also start posting more on here as they come up, because it’s not all about my outfits.
Please forward me all pictures of you guys wearing my label too!
Completely obsessed with these thin leather sandals from Zara. Actually way better than most of the designer sandals I’ve been looking at, and with minimal 90s vibes all around. SCORE! This long coat is also perfect for shielding my skin from the mean London weather which is currently sunny and rainy all at the same time. You must get bored reading English blogs because that seems to be the main topic of grumble-sation, sorry! Forgive me whilst I go and catch up on Aussie Fashion Week.
I’ve been wanting to do this post for a while and it’s the perfect rainy day for me to stay inside and play with my camera. When it comes to make up and hair products I prefer the easy natural look, and slowly over the last few months I’ve been introduced to products that really make a difference. Any time I’ve been on a magazine shoot I can’t quite believe the transformation before my eyes, that’s not to say it’s as easy to get the same look at home when all you have is one arm holding a hairbrush and the other a dryer, as apposed to a team all pulling your hairs different directions at the same time. Anyway here are some of the products that actually do work at home for me.
For the hair: I’m loving this seaweed shampoo from Bumble and bumble (I have the conditioner too but it’s not as thick and creamy as their other ones), so instead I’ve been using this new Phil Smith conditioning hair mask every few washes. After I use the Bumble and bumble prep spray followed by Moroccan Oil. I am totally obsessed with the Moroccan Oil! I know I’m a bit late on this but glad I made the party eventually, so much better than any other hair oil product I’ve used and I love the glossy feeling afterwards.
For the face: I’ve had the Clinique eyes serum for a while but really started using it around fashion week; the cold ball feels so good under your eyes and really helps to wake you up. Bobby Browns corrector is amazing for under your eyes, I’m always paranoid about looking tired and this is another beauty secret I learned from a make up artist on set, then I always top up with YSL’s Touche Eclat (told you I was paranoid). For the mascara I love MaxFactor, they have the perfect brush size and always make my eyelashes look longer. The Calvin Klein eyeshadow base I’ve just been using on it’s own, it’s got a great creamy texture that doesn’t turn into lines on your eyelid after a days wear; it’s just a few shades darker than my skin tone so it’s quite subtle. The Laura Mercier eye powder duo is another new product I can’t live without; I’ve got it in Deep Blonde and you use the lighter powder for the inside of your brow and the darker one as you brush out. The high beam from Benefit is great for a healthy glow, I just put a little on my cheekbones and on the inside of the eye to brighten up my face.
I’d love to hear of any products that you guys can’t live without!
Never would I have thought, back when I was hanging out at skate parks in my home town (a long time ago) would I be investing in a pair shoes that are essentially, Vans. I was always more or a Converse girl and then a Dr Martens girl, never a vans girl. Although I do remember having the huge trainers with the baggy low down ripped jeans -kind of glad that’s over, and yet I still find myself revisiting certain nineties/noughties subcultures.
So, finally these shoes appear in a post. I’ve been wearing them so much, but I’ve sort of been enjoying them as my little secret. They’re so comfortable, the time is definitely right to be spending money on good long lasting flats. They’re also perfect for brightening up my black outfits, looking forward to wearing them with bare legs though. Also super happy with this leather mini skirt that I’ve been needing in my wardrobe forever. Slowly learning that investing in staples is way better than splurging on one time wears. Shame on me for taking that long to figure it out.
I’m delighted to show you the final images for the Danielle Foster for Charlie May lookbook that I posted some behind the scenes for last week. I’m so happy with how it looks, we went for the more monochrome looks in the AW13 collection, and matched everything together. It’s exactly how I would wear the collection and the bags together, I love it! Looking forward to what the press have to say over the press days next week! If you want to see the bags in person (and are press) you can view them at the HPR and Sane press days.
