NEW SHOES

Wearing: Charlie May AW13 coat, Uniqlo shirt, Topshop Unique skirt, Céline shoes, Pamela Love necklace and Maria Fracesca Pepe bracelet.

I finally got my birthday shoes in the post! – A birthday present to myself I might add; found on a dusty corner of eBay and shipped across the Atlantic. They’re taking a bit of wearing in. I managed to hobble out of Shini’s house to take these pictures (just kidding, but they are most definitely cab to curb heels only for now…). Worn with the white wool coat from my AW13 collection and other perfectly matching white things. Possibly my favourite outfit on here, ever.

POINT OF VIEW

Wearing: Stylein jumper, Iris & Ink skirt, Ann Demeulemeester boots, Acne sunglasses, MFPepe bracelet.

Generally I have tall friends, also my boyfriend (the usual outfit photographer on this blog) is tall; I’m not short myself at 5ft 8″ and yet on the far dusty corners of the internet I actually see someone saying that I’m “not tall and not skinny”. Now, I can’t claim to be fashion skinny but I can claim to be tall-ish right?  It had never really occurred to me to ask my tall friends to stoop whilst taking my picture, to give some kind of optical illusion of how I actually look, IRL. I know the camera adds 10lbs but does it also take inches off your height? I know this is a funny subject to talk about, especially as I usually on rave on about clothes, and the skinny debate can go on and on but, the tall debate, I have never heard of.

So, outside Bistrotheque, the weekend after our Antwerp getaway, Michael and I experimented with this short/tall photo theory, and I have to say I know which ones came out better. Sorry boys, but I’ll probably be asking you to stoop from now on.

SPORTS FOR MINIMALISTS

Editorial for Volstrom Magazine featuring Charlie May SS13.

Loving this new Volstrom editorial featuring the silk wrap skirt and the high cut shorts from SS13, worn with some beautiful Kirsty Ward & Hugo Boss tops. The sportswear vibe feels so right paired back with the minimal wrap skirt; this is definitely a look I want to replicate for summer.

I was sad the skirt never went into production, despite being popular in Marie Claire and with you, dear readers, sometimes pieces slip through the net! This season I’ll be making sure that doesn’t happen as I’ll be ordering for my own e-commerce store, expected to launch for August, so watch this space!

SLEEPING ON THE WATER

Wearing: Ann Demeulemeester shirt and skirt, Alexander Wang pumps, & Other Stories clutch, MFP and Moxham bracelets.

This was the view we woke up to from our crate hotel in Antwerp on Thursday. It was crazy surreal as there was a horse show going on just next door; there we were looking equally out of place, stood harbour side in towel robes and slippers, whilst the horses stretched their legs and the jockeys pretended not to see us. Quite the experience, which I’ll go into more detail later.

For now I wanted to show off purchase numero uno from the Ann Demeulemeester stock sale. This white shirt from the super tassle collection of Spring/Summer 12. Most of the pieces were a bit OTT for me, so I settled for this beautiful crisp white shirt with one single white tassle hanging from the centre back. The beautiful little box clutch was pinched from Michael (still with tags on!), I’ll be ordering this little guy ASAP I think.

WATERFALLS

Wearing: Alexander Wang jumper and bag, 3.1 Phillip Lim shorts, Ann Demeulemeester boots, MFPepe bracelet.

My final post from Bristol, perfecting the art of showing you what was underneath my hundred layers of coats and hats. Really looking forward to summer now, where I’ll no doubt be transitioning from winter whites to summer whites. WATCH OUT. ..Seriously though I must have worn predominantly white in the last 10 posts. Transeasonal dressing is now exactly the same, just plus or minus the tights it would seem.

VELCRO STILETTO

Wearing: Charlie May SS13 velvet tee and AW13 mesh dress, Topshop Unique skirt, Alexander Wang shoes, MFP bracelet and rings from Backstage.

The most genius of newly discovered things has to go to the velcro stiletto. I never dreamed that these shoes would do up with what’s more nostalgically associated with pre school days etc etc, but leave it to Mr Wang to surprise me. It’s difficult to do up a shoe whilst teetering on the balls of your feet, so hooray for function and fashion combining!

BACK WITH A BUMP

Wearing: Alexander Wang knit, Acne trousers, Converse shoes, Danielle Foster x Charlie May satchel, Miu Miu sunnies, MFP bracelet and Noemie Klein ring

Finally back with a bump after a couple of days spent LIVIN LA VIDA LOCA on the sofa, post LFW. Although those last two days were technically fashion week, I decided to stop trying to do everything at once and accept that I need some rest after the mayhem of organising a whole show. I still can’t believe it’s done, and now I have lots of exciting meetings with buyers etc!

I had to share this bag with you before it gets packed off to Sane PR, it’s of course from the Danielle Foster X Charlie May collaboration for AW13! I am ridiculously in love with it. If you saw the show pictures you can see how it’s worn without the strap too. I’ve seen a few clear bags making the rounds over the last year but none as cool as this, it’s definitely going to be mine asap, along with that white wool coat it was worn with!

Thank you to Grazia who today named me one of 23 under-the-radar labels you should know! So crazy happy. (humble brag over)

THE TREES HAVE EYES

Wearing: Stephan Schneider jumper, Charlie May velvet tee, Helmut Lang skirt, Ann Demeulemeester boots, Maria Francesca Pepe bracelet, Acne beanie

Lumpy jumpers. This may be the ultimate lumpy jumper; I bought it from Labels Inc in Antwerp a couple of years ago from the mens section. It fits like a dad jumper, which is perfect in the right situations; such as a walk down the Thames on a cold Sunday. Happy to find such a cluster of trees in the middle of the city, so thought I would enjoy the moment.

ROXANNE

Wearing: Ann Demeulemeester jacket, Theysken’s Theory top, Helmut Lang skirt, Nicholas Kirkwood X Erdem shoes, Maria Francesca Pepe bracelet, Dior sunglasses.

I had that song in my head all day yesterday, and it seemed kind of appropriate for the title here, although I’m not selling my body to the night or anything! The Nicholas Kirkwood sample sale is coming up next week and I was reminded of these beauties that I came away with last year. They’ve only made one appearance on the blog and maybe are used more for swooning than for wearing, which I’m aiming to change. Maybe I’ll be more sensible this year and only buy a pair if I’ll genuinely live in them, like this top and skirt that are on constant wardrobe rotation at the moment.

DUCK & WAFFLE

Wearing: MaxMara coat, Theory dress, Ann Demeulemeester boots, Dr Martens bag, jewellery by MFP and Dominic Jones

Shooting like a rocket up Heron Tower’s glass elevator early on a Sunday afternoon was quite the surprising experience; doing 0-40 floors in 3 seconds, I’m surprised I even managed lunch after the vertigo! The lift kicked us out a couple of floors down, which gave us the chance to to take in the views and stop off for a quick outfit shot, before being told off by the security guards (apparently the tower is still somewhat being built and the glass hadn’t been secured – erm ok!). The food at D&W was so good though, I’m still dreaming about those ox cheek donuts and of course, their signature dish – the duck and waffle! I’m looking forward to going back at nighttime to see London lit up, and jealous of anyone who managed to go on Monday for fireworks on bonfire night!
