As you can tell I was completely transfixed by the array of tropical plants on the resort. In London I try in vain to keep plants of this nature in my basement flat and they’re dead within the year if I am lucky. Walking around the island (or golf buggy-ing up those steep hills) you have three different restaurants; Jahn, Azzure and Zest, as well as lounges for cocktails and sunset bathing, a spa, a pool, a gym, and of course a private beach. Every morning I seemed to be awake with the dawn and went running up the super steep hills. This actually helped me stay in great shape over the trip and I looked forward to my routine each morning of trotting down to breakfast and enjoying whatever took my fancy that day after the HIT session. They had so much on offer, whether it was making eggs of your choice fresh, or choosing from the array of fruits, pastries, yoghurts and jams; my biggest discovery two days before the end of the trip was the coconut jam with natural yoghurt. It was like crack to me! SO good – any recommendations of where to find this in London, hit me up please. They also had any number of fish, curry’s, noodles, dim sum. Literally how is a girl to choose?! After that it was back up to the suite for pool lounging, catching up on my reading and more view staring.
Andrew and I made a pact to lock our phones in the safe for three days to truly switch off, we didn’t quite manage to be this dramatic but we did hardly touch them for the duration of the week. On the second day we went up to the spa close to our villa and had a full body scrub to prepare our skin for the tanning to come; as well as a traditional thai massage where they walk on your back and bend you into all kinds of amazing positions. It’s like yoga without having to move! All whilst looking out over that insane turquoise blue. All throughout the trip you really felt like everything had been taken into consideration with regards to getting back to nature; the layout of the resort meant that you hardly saw anyone else, and you could wonder around under the canopy of tropical foliage, day dreaming and watching out for butterflies and dragonflies landing and soaking up the sun, all on route to finding a fresh coconut to indulge in. All very important stuff. Seriously though it’s important to take a break sometimes from working life and take a trip somewhere magical like Conrad, Koh Samui. I feel so light since the trip like a weight of stress has been lifted off my shoulders (maybe that was helped by the incredible Thai massage too?). Whilst we did manage to spend half the trip lounging by the pool, we actually got some work done. With high speed internet all throughout the resort you were only ever a click away from that inbox. I could seriously get used to working in these conditions that’s for sure.
